Your Spring Picnic Checklist Essentials
April 2, 2025
Spring is here! The days are getting longer, and the fresh air is calling your name. Of all the ways to welcome the season and enjoy spending time outside, a picnic is one of our favorites. With a bit of planning (and some tips from Tracks), this checklist will be your guide to happy grazing:
Set the Scene
- Blankets – Bonus points if you have blankets with waterproof bottoms to keep damp grass from ruining your setup.
- Utensils and serving essentials – Think ahead to what you’re serving. Will you need cutlery and cups or just plates and napkins?
- Carrying case – Traditional picnic baskets are cute for dry goods, but a small cooler or insulated bag is the real MVP for keeping food and drinks fresh and cool.
Snacks on Snacks
- Main course – Keep it simple with sandwiches, wraps, or other finger foods.
- Fresh fruits and veggies – Choose options that travel well, like grapes, clementines, apple slices, mini carrots, sliced bell peppers, cucumbers, or celery sticks.
- Cheese and crackers – A crowd-pleasing classic that pairs perfectly with your favorite fruit.
- Extreme! Moose Tracks Trail Mix by Overjoyed – Don’t forget to pack the star of the show! A delightfully snackable blend of peanuts, fudge mini cups, Moose Tracks fudge bits, dark chocolate-dipped almonds, and pretzels. What’s not to love?
Refreshment Round-Up
- Infused water – Hydration is key, but let’s make it fun! Add cucumber, berries, or citrus slices for extra flavor. Keep drinks cool in your favorite Moose Tracks water bottle.
- Iced tea or lemonade – We can’t explain it, but these two fan favorites just hit different outdoors.
The Fun Factor
- Bluetooth speaker – Set the tone for a great day with a feel-good playlist.
- Board games or coloring books – A deck of cards can also be fun, but beware of windy conditions. If it’s breezy out, go for board games or coloring books instead.
- Yard games – Bocce ball, frisbee, football — whatever gets your herd moving around enough to work up an appetite.
Tips from Tracks
- Pack baby wipes in addition to napkins because nobody likes sticky hooves (or hands).
- Use a fitted sheet and place heavier items in the corners to create a makeshift picnic “zone.”
- Pre-slice everything at home. From fruit and cheese to sandwiches, this makes serving easier and eliminates the need to travel with a knife.
- Pack Extreme! Moose Tracks Trail Mix in individual portions to make sharing quick and easy.
- Freeze grapes to use as ice cubes and keep drinks cool without watering anything down.
- Wrap sandwiches in parchment paper, as it’s easier to handle than plastic.
- Bring a trash bag just in case there isn’t a receptacle nearby.
- Outdoor pillows are great for extra cushioning and a comfy setup.
- No one wants to be the pack mule (or moose). Load up a small wagon to make transport easier.
